Important GSO Gulf Technical Regulation clarification for manufacturers and exporters of air conditioner products to the Arabic Gulf region.
- Room air conditioning units with HS Code 84 15 10 00, that are intended to be placed ‘locally’ are included within the mandatory certification scope (irrespective of capacity*)
- Central air conditioning units with HS Codes 84 15 82 20 and 84 15 83 20 are excluded from the mandatory certification scope (irrespective of capacity*)
Martin Churches, SASO Technical Manager at XDS Solutions explains more:
“There has been a degree of uncertainty over the GSO Gulf Technical Regulation and certification scheme, and whether air conditioning equipment imported into the Arabic Gulf region is subject to the mandatory certification scope of other electrical products.
The clarification now given by the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) means exporters of air conditioners (product HS Code 84 15 10 00) can now be certain of their obligations, and avoid costly delays at port”.
Please note. The process of alignment is now underway, until then be aware that not all seven Gulf states have implemented this GSO clarification.
*Irrespective of capacity: Either below 70 000 BTU: HS 10 10 15 84 or above 70 000 BTU: HS 20 10 15 84.
